adidas king of the road - singapore 2013

i went home last tuesday night and made sure to be back here on saturday to be able to join the adidas king of the road singapore 2013. i had to sleep early as i have to run 16.8km for the said event.

not knowing that the first trip of train is 6:00am on sundays, i found myself alone on the platform bound for marina bay. i went out of the train station, and found another filipino runner waiting for his friend, both joining the race. the three of us ended up taking the same cab to esplanade mall. on our way, the rain started to fall heavily :( we were confused as to what will happen on the race.

runners were waiting under the comfort of esplanade mall & theater from the heavy rain. at around 6:14am, i received a text message from adidaskotr, "according to the weather forecast report from nea, lightning and thunderstorms are expected. we will advise all runners by 6:15am if the race is delayed."

second text message was, "nea reports continued thunderstorm. for the safety of all runners, 16.8km race is now postponed to 6:50am..." original flag-off time was 6:30am.

but it was already 7:00am and it was still raining. after a while someone announced that the race is cancelled. indeed, at 7:08am another text message was received, "due to unforeseen weather conditions, we regret to announce the adidas king of the road race is officially cancelled. we apologize for this inconvenience but the safety and health of runners are our utmost priority."

runners dispersing after the announcement
i was so sad that the event was cancelled :( i could have stayed one more day with nanay... they'll be sending the medals to all registered runners though...

binignit

i've been craving for nanay's binignit two weeks before i went home for chinese new year holiday...

and i'm so happy that she cooked binignit for me when i was home... friends who came to visit liked it also...

it is a local dessert with finely ground sticky rice in small circles (bilo-bilo), sweet potato, jackfruit, sago and coconut milk...

thank you so much, nanay :)) missing you and your delicious dishes...

home - july 2011

i was home for 3 weeks last july 2011. i celebrated my birthday there along with the blessing/thanksgiving of my baby.

nadette & me...
nadette, a friend and a former colleague came all the way from cebu to visit me and spent few days there. we went to coco beach at gumasa, glan with the mariano family and had a good time at the sunny white beach...

view from above, the best shot i've got :)
one of the seven falls at lake sebu
laurence  & me, we're flying...
we also spent a day at lake sebu together with laurence. it was an unforgettable experience. it was my first time to zip line. it was just so amazing and the view of nature is so wonderful from above. it's the highest zip line in south east asia.

lunch at the floating cottage
we had a wonderful time...

my baby

yes..! i already have a baby :))

i am blessed by a boss, who is kind enough to finance for the construction of my 4-door apartment just behind our house…
he said, "i don't want you to go home and return to the philippines without any investment…"
he said it's a good investment which of course i agree.

and because of that, I'm living a frugal life now... more than half of my salary pays the loan…
but at the same time, I'm so excited to pay every cents I owe from him to be able to spend few dollars as a reward for having a life like this until 2 or 3 years more… and might as well cross some of my bucketlist ;)

away from home

first day in singapore with charry
feb 2009 was the first time i travel away from pinas… it was not my first time to be away from home though. when i was in college, i'm only home once or twice a month on the weekends… i also had worked in manila and cebu and went home for few times only.

working and living abroad can kill you of longing for home... but as the time passed, i already like it here... i enjoyed the opportunities i encountered while working and earning some few dollars. those things i only long for when i was still working in pinas...
i've always wanted to work abroad to earn better but being in a relationship that time, i was always hesitant to go. things didn't work out fine for the two of us and it gave a chance for me to be here.

jetlag
forever grateful to charry, a friend and neighbor, who helped me and accommodated me here in singapore. not only that, she also had recommend me to my present boss, mr puah.

away from home always makes us long to go home… ofw's may have different experience from each other but let us be inspired by this verse from Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose."
